Chris is a 46-year-old vet and farmer who came to StrengthWorks feeling uncomfortable with where his health was heading.
He was very aware he was getting older, putting on weight, drinking too much, smoking — and generally not feeling great in himself.
The Challenge
Before joining StrengthWorks, Chris had reached a real turning point.
The wake-up call came when he was in the park with his nieces and nephews. They were doing pull-ups with ease — and he couldn’t do a single one. That moment made everything feel very real.
Chris knew something needed to change, but he wasn’t sure where to start.
Why He Nearly Didn’t Start
Like many people, Chris was nervous about group training.
He wasn’t sure:
- If he’d enjoy training with others
- Whether the sessions would suit his ability
- If his shoulder issues would limit what he could do
Those doubts nearly stopped him from giving it a go.

After his very first session, Chris knew he’d made the right decision.
He quickly realised the group environment was actually one of the biggest positives. The coaches pushed him daily, but always recognised his shoulder issues and adapted sessions to make sure he could train safely and confidently.
Instead of feeling held back, he felt supported — and challenged in the right way.

Chris has now trained at StrengthWorks almost every day for an entire year — excluding Sundays and holidays — and the impact has been huge.
